Rei accepts a mission from the Fang Clan to spy on Mamiya's village, where he encounters Kenshiro and his companions. Attracted by Mamiya, he abandons his original allegiance and joins the village as a new protector. Kenshiro and Rei subsequently discover that they practice conflicting martial arts disciplines. Concurrently, the Fang Clan leader plans retaliation for the deaths of his subordinates, setting the stage for future conflict between the opposing factions and their respective masters.
