Chitanda Eru seeks to uncover the mystery surrounding her uncle, whose words caused her distress in her youth. She desires to recall his exact statements and understand his fate. Houtarou agrees to assist her investigation. Following mid-term exams, Houtarou receives a letter from his older sister that reveals the location of past Classic Literature Club anthologies stored in the Biology Room, which is currently occupied by the News Club. He deduces that the News Club president smokes tobacco and uses this information to blackmail him into surrendering the archives. Although Eru remains confident that the anthologies will help solve her uncle's mystery, she is shocked to discover that the very first edition of the anthology is missing.
