Ep. 5: Houtarou confronts the librarian about Eru's uncle's forced expulsion and the true meaning of Hyouka.
Aired on May 21, 2012

Following a discussion with his sister, Houtarou identifies gaps in his previous theories and questions school librarian Youko Kouriyama regarding the incident involving Eru's uncle. She clarifies that the uncle was coerced into accepting blame for a student strike that shortened the Culture Festival, leading to his unjust expulsion. Before leaving, he requests that the Classic Literature Club name their anthology "Hyouka," a pun on "I scream" intended to encourage future members to remain strong. Eru is moved to tears upon realizing this message answers her earlier question about the term's significance. The following day, the club commences planning for their anthology publication.
