In 2031, an experimental energy device called the "Quantum Reactor" is developed to address Earth's declining fossil fuel supply. The device malfunctions, causing a massive explosion known as the "Shouryuu Crisis," which releases unknown energies into the environment. This event triggers severe ecological changes, nearly wiping out humanity and giving rise to hybrid organic-mechanical creatures called the "B.R.A.I." Seven years later, Leon Lau, a scientist involved in the crisis, resides in the wilderness near Neo Shouryou, one of the few remaining human cities. He has formed a "family contract" with Chloe Lau, and they work together to develop strategies for combating the B.R.A.I. threat.
