Flone Robinson experiences insomnia due to excitement about the upcoming migration and eventually falls asleep in Marie's room. Her older brother Franz initially fears that the journey will ruin his career plans. After first deciding to stay with relatives, Franz changes his mind and leaps aboard the ship.
