Ep. 3: Erin questions the ear-web tradition and witnesses Touda training with Mute Whistles

The village anticipates the arrival of the Grand Duke and a royal relative to observe Touda training. Erin discovers that Touda must have ear-webs applied to their severed ears to hear Mute Whistles and remain tame, a practice also applied to the infant Lulu. During a meeting, Damiya persuades the Grand Duke to permit his sons, Shunan and Nunan, to ride Touda. Unable to attend the session, Erin joins friends who spot the training from a cliff, where she observes the animals being forced into submission. When a Touda attacks the group, Shunan and Nunan subdue it using Mute Whistles. Following the incident, the chief orders an increase in Touda numbers, prompting Wadan to suggest removing Lulu’s ear-webs early. Disturbed by the prospect of war, Erin resolves to understand the Touda’s perspective to protect Lulu from similar treatment.
