Following the mysterious death of the Grand Duke's Kiba, Soh-yon is executed by the Tohda. Erin leaps into a lake infested with these creatures to save her bleeding mother. Despite Erin's desperate efforts, Soh-yon is pulled away to safety by her daughter. In the process, Soh-yon is consumed alive by the Tohda as an act of atonement for her sins. This tragic sequence highlights the brutal nature of the punishment and the heartbreaking separation between mother and child, ending with Soh-yon's fatal sacrifice while Erin survives the encounter.
