On January 23, U.C. 0079, Zeon forces achieve a decisive victory over the Earth Federation at Side 5, also known as Loum, by deploying humanoid mobile suits. Char Aznable leads this assault in his red Zaku II, earning the title Red Comet and a promotion to Lieutenant Commander. Following this defeat, the Earth Federation launches Operation V. At Side 7, Amuro Ray becomes involved in uncovering the secrets of the Gundam. Simultaneously, high officials from both sides meet in Antarctica for peace talks, while a significant speech is broadcast globally from Luna II.
