Ep. 1: Alois Trancy’s Past Revealed as Sebastian Michaelis Arrives at the Trancy Mansion

Earl Alois Trancy instructs his butler Claude Faustus to restore the mansion’s original decor before the arrival of his uncle, Viscount Arnold Trancy, and a priest. Alois recounts his traumatic childhood, revealing he was kidnapped at birth and survived a village plague that claimed everyone else. He gifts Arnold a large sum of money before a storm forces a cloaked stranger to seek shelter. The stranger requests entry to the basement in exchange for revealing his luggage contents, which include a black tea box for aromatherapy. Claude attacks the intruder, exposing him as Sebastian Michaelis, who hides the lifeless body of Earl Ciel Phantomhive. Alois orders Claude to capture Sebastian, who shatters a chandelier to exploit Alois’s nyctophobia before escaping through a window. Sebastian later opens the tea box to reveal a blue ring, placing it on Ciel’s finger to wake him.
