After the Four Musketeers defeat the Gargoyles and capture Caron, Durand frees him, allowing both to flee. Robin pursues Durand, while D'Eon and Teillagory track Caron to his employers. They discover Caron serves Comte de Saint-Germain, who burns his house to cover their escape upon noticing the eavesdroppers. D'Eon enters the burning building and finds a significant book. Later, D'Eon and his friends meet Durand at Lia's casket as requested. Subsequently, King Louis XV and Duc d'Broglie invite D'Eon to join Le Secret du Roi, following his sister's path. This sequence concludes the immediate conflict while opening new political avenues for the protagonist within the royal secret service structure.
