Ep. 2: Cosette Endures Hard Labor and Abuse Under the Thénardiers' Cruel Watch

The day after previous events, Cosette performs strenuous chores for the Thénardiers, including sweeping, cleaning tables, and polishing the inn sign. Azelma approaches to play, but Éponine intervenes, citing their mother’s prohibition and asserting their status as inn princesses while excluding Cosette. They order her back to work until baby Gavroche’s cries interrupt. Inside, Madame Thénardier harshly silences the infant, kicking his cradle. When Cosette attempts to protest, she is silenced too late. Madame Thénardier forces Cosette to watch the baby while she works, shoving Cosette to the floor in the process.
