Ep. 1: The Takakura siblings face death and resurrection involving a mysterious penguin spirit.

Shouma, Kanba, and Himari Takakura live together despite Himari having only months to live. After a trip to the aquarium where Shouma buys her a queen penguin hat, Himari collapses and dies. She later revives, cured and possessed by a spirit extending her life, though the effect ends when the hat falls off. The next day, the siblings receive a shipment of frozen items, revealed to be three strange penguins only they can see. The hat possesses Himari again, explaining that her extended life requires the brothers to obtain the Penguin Drum. That night, Shouma sleeps while Kanba appears to kiss Himari, but the scene cuts before contact is confirmed.
