John agreed to let the mine be reexamined on the condition that he could reexamine it, leaving Lassie with the Duke of Radling in the process. John and Sam found a new ore vein and labored hard to get Lassie back. However, the Duke of Radling took Lassie back to his main residence in Scotland.
