Conan, Kogoro, Amuro, and Irohara Sushi craftsman Wakita arrive at an abandoned church. They encounter four sheets of cryptography paper covered in katakana characters, which serve as the key to solving the case, yet they cannot find the clue to decipher it. Meanwhile, Inspector Yamato of the Nagano Prefectural Police, who is clearing snow from a tunnel, contacts them. He informs them that he will pick them up in about three hours, leaving the group to deal with the unsolved puzzle in the meantime.
