Detective Conan investigates the murder of antique appraiser Hogen Nishizu, who was killed with a spear. Police struggle to authenticate a black lacquer tray found at the scene. Conan examines small plates Dr. Agasa requested to be authenticated and notices inconsistencies in the tray's orientation. He deduces the culprit stole the real tray to keep it, motivated by a desire to surprise guests. Although the killer forgot the original owner, Conan identifies him through bloodstains. The small plates were revealed to be repairs of items broken by Dr. Agasa's uncle. After solving the case, Conan reflects on Akai's mother, Mary, and her mysterious "sister outside the realm," questioning her intentions.
