Conan visits Dr. Agasa, who plans to appraise a vintage plate from his uncle's villa. Haibara, worried by Sera's surveillance, joins them despite anger at being called a mature child. Okiya brings food, and the group heads to the appraiser, Hogen Nishizu. Upon arrival, they find Nishizu beaten and dying. As Agasa leaves to call police, an assailant emerges and stabs Nishizu to death. Three visitors are present: Motoyuki Toshima, Kinji Chono, and Suzue Sakamaki, who sought authentication for a black lacquer tray worth tens of millions. The identity of the killer and the fate of the valuable tray remain unknown.
