Aspiring novelist Shokichi Hazama walks with Conan, Haibara, and the Detective Boys while carrying shopping bags. He overhears a discussion between Teruyo Imaizumi, the apartment landlady, and Nenji Kodokara, his neighbor. Kodokara reports that his apartment has been stolen, but Imaizumi refuses to let him call the police because it would damage the building's reputation. Despite her objections, they decide to contact law enforcement anyway. The police quickly suspect Hazama due to his proximity to the crime scene. To prove his innocence, Hazama voluntarily offers his fingerprints for comparison, hoping to clear his name and identify the actual culprit responsible for the theft.
