Ran and Conan accompany Kogoro to meet famed baseball player Toshizo Nose, as he is Eri’s favorite athlete. They encounter sports reporter Masaharu Motoyama, who is preparing for the interview. Unbeknownst to Toshizo, Masaharu intends to kill him. The following day, Masaharu stabs Toshizo to death on the street while cryptically referencing historical terms. Kogoro and the group find the body, but Conan suspects Masaharu despite the lack of visible injuries and Masaharu’s alibi of being on a direct flight. Conan discovers that Masaharu and Toshizo were formerly on the same team before Masaharu became a reporter. As Conan investigates, he sees Vermouth, suggesting a connection to the Black Organization.
