Kogoro attends a meeting with TV producer Ryoko Inoue and scriptwriters Joji Yagami, Morio Kouda, and Akira Sakuma. Joji dies after drinking coffee laced with poison. Morio becomes the primary suspect due to his history of bullying by Joji and attempts to get him fired. Conan analyzes the facts and reveals that Morio committed the murder. The killing was random, as Morio did not care which scriptwriter consumed the poison. His motive was not revenge for the bullying, but a desire for fame. Morio is arrested, leaving Conan upset that he killed to achieve prominence while enjoying the episodes he wrote.
