Hattori Heiji and Kazuha Tooyama arrive at the Mouri Detective Agency with Inspector Otaki to report a suspicious case in Tokyo. Police monitored all entrances to victim Hidemichi Mizuki's apartment, discovering him hanged with a limited edition chair knocked beneath his feet. Kazuha identifies the chair and notes its height is 10cm below where Mizuki's feet would be while suspended. After resolving this initial mystery, the group prepares to leave the building. While waiting for the elevator, third-floor resident Nanami overhears discussions about Kaizou Fuura, who caused Mizuki significant debt. She mentions her husband also suffered losses due to Fuura's stock market influence. Suddenly, Kaizou Fuura appears from the elevator window and shoots himself.
