Shuko Kumado was assaulted and bound after an incense burner was stolen from her home. Conan, Ran, and Kogoro happened to be passing by the residence when the incident occurred. Following the theft, a ransom demand of ten million yen was issued for the item, despite its actual value being only one million yen. The following morning, the incense burner was returned to the victim without any ransom payment being made.
