Ventriloquist Tengan performs a story about a man possessed by his doll who kills his wife. He suffers from genuine split personality disorder, and his doll's persona commands him to murder his wife Kazuko. Tengan requests Kogoro's assistance in monitoring him to prevent the crime, but Kogoro declines, citing it is outside his expertise. The following morning, Kazuko is discovered dead. Tengan admits he might have killed her while unaware of his actions, leaving the truth ambiguous.
