Conan, Ran, Kogoro, Heiji, and Kazuka stay at a mountain inn in Nagano. Heiji finds a photo of a scythe-bearing figure near the outdoor bath, prompting an investigation into its identity. They meet writers Nakama and Koyanagi, who are also researching the incident. While exploring a dark storehouse, Heiji cuts his right arm, Kogoro injures the back of his hand, and Koyanagi suffers a cheek wound. These attacks fuel fears of a kamaitachi. As more incidents attributed to the creature occur, the group continues their search for the truth behind the mysterious figure haunting the inn.
