Orochimaru reanimates previous Hokages to address Sasuke’s inquiries, dispelling initial suspicions of his old schemes. Sasuke first seeks confirmation from Hiruzen regarding Itachi’s actions, then questions Tobirama about the Uchiha clan’s Sharingan, which Tobirama explains arises from deep emotional trauma and resulting hatred. When Tobirama attempts to leave, Orochimaru threatens to use the reanimated leaders to attack the Leaf Village if they do not satisfy Sasuke’s demands. Sasuke then asks Hashirama to define the concepts of a village and shinobi. Recognizing that his response will influence Sasuke’s future decisions, Hashirama begins his explanation by recounting his final climactic battle with Madara at the Valley of the End.
