Hashirama and Madara attempt to warn each other that their families are targeting them, but a confrontation involving Butsuma, Tobirama, Tajima, and Izuna results in near-death for Izuna. Madara accepts the reality of the war and continues fighting against the Senju. As years pass, Hashirama and Madara become leaders while casualties mount. Tobirama fatally wounds Izuna, who later dies and leaves his eyes to Madara, granting him the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan. Despite this power, Madara is defeated by Hashirama. Hashirama stops Tobirama from delivering the final blow and offers peace again. Madara demands Hashirama or Tobirama take his own life as a condition. Hashirama agrees, securing a vow from his kin that the feud will end and the Uchiha will be safe. Seeing Hashirama's resolve, Madara stops him from dying and accepts the proposal, leading to the establishment of Konoha.
