In a distant future, increased solar radiation has devastated Earth's environment and significantly reduced the human birthrate. The government maintains control through a military force composed of cloned soldiers known as "Ideal Children (IC)." Sam Coyne operates as a trader in a desert region. After rescuing a woman named Maya from pursuit by Theseus, a unit of IC, he takes her aboard his trading vessel. However, Theseus forces soon surround Sam and Maya.
