Piercing I

In late 2008, economic hardship leads to factory closures in China, leaving Zhang Xiaojun unemployed after working at a shoe factory. He is assaulted by a supermarket guard who wrongly accuses him of theft. His attempts to seek compensation from the manager fail. Zhang hopes to return to his rural home and take up farming, but he is arrested before he can leave. Meanwhile, the supermarket manager faces his own difficulties. Their paths cross one night at a teahouse near the city wall.
