Alone in the attic while Becky stays at Ashfield, Sara wakes and feeds sparrows, noticing many children next door and hoping to play. Later, returning from Covent Garden, Sara observes the Indian lascar Ram Dass unloading his master, Thomas Carrisford, from a carriage.
