Years ago, a starving Genma Saotome traded Ranma to a man for fish. That man now travels to Tokyo to claim Ranma as his future son-in-law. To settle the matter, a martial arts takeout race is organized. The stakes are high: if Akane loses the competition, Ranma must marry the man's daughter. This confrontation brings the past debt into the present, forcing the characters to engage in a physical contest that determines Ranma's marital fate and resolves the old transaction between Genma and the visitor.
