Ukyo Kuonji believes that Ranma Saotome is the only obstacle preventing her from marrying Akane Tendo, as Ranma was previously promised to her. Consequently, Ukyo decides to remove Ranma from the equation by eliminating him as Akane's current betrothed. To achieve this goal, she forms a partnership with Ryoga Hibiki. The plan involves using Ryoga to distract or defeat Ranma while simultaneously attempting to set Ryoga up with Akane. This scheme relies on Ukyo's determination to secure Ranma's hand in marriage by getting rid of his current engagement to Akane through her alliance with the often unlucky Ryoga.
