One day, he receives a paper asking if he wishes to wind something. After Jun carelessly accepts the offer, a mysterious box appears containing a doll. The doll, capable of movement and speech, introduces herself as Shinku, the fifth doll of the Rozen Maiden. Jun enters into a contract with Shinku, thereby becoming her medium. This arrangement marks the beginning of his involvement with the living dolls and their associated duties.
