Sanosuke is recovering from injuries caused by Saito, but Kenshin remains mentally troubled. Arundo Akamatsu, an assassin hired by Saito’s employer, attempts to draw Kenshin into combat but is defeated. Saito then arrives at the dojo, using his position as a policeman to gain entry. He initiates a fight with Kenshin despite Kaoru’s desperate pleas for him to stop and avoid reverting to his manslayer persona.
