Gray shoots Danny to save Zack, then reveals his fascination with Ray and Zack’s mutual influence before the building collapses, killing both men. Zack escapes the rubble and surrenders to police so Ray can receive medical care. After recovering, Ray is placed in a mental facility where rehabilitation efforts fail. She learns that Zack has been sentenced to death for his crimes, including killing her parents. Zack escapes prison to break Ray out of the facility. They jump from a window together, and Zack tells her to stop crying and smile, fulfilling their oath. Police arrive to find the room empty, with blood on the windowsill and Zack’s knife on the floor.
