On an April morning, Kafuka Fuura encounters Nozomu Itoshiki attempting suicide. She intervenes, snapping the rope with her weight, which saves him but nearly kills him. As an optimist, Kafuka nicknames the pessimistic Nozomu Pink Supervisor and pays him fifty yen to use the name. Unable to endure her constant chatter, Nozomu flees to his school as the new academic year begins. Upon arrival, he discovers that Kafuka has enrolled as one of his students, marking the beginning of their unexpected connection.
