While Hayato attempts to clarify the distinction between the Nozomi and Kodama Shinkansen services for Seiryu, he receives a call from Ryūji's mother, Kaede. She reports that Ryūji and his younger brother, Tatsumi, are engaged in a severe dispute that has left them refusing to communicate. To uncover the root cause of this sibling rivalry, Hayato travels to the Nagoya Branch accompanied by Azusa and Seiryu. During their journey, Hayato encounters Chief Commander Subaru Azuma again on the Tokaido Shinkansen platform at Tokyo Station.
