Madoka informs Hikaru and others about her decision to determine her own path, then discusses her future with Elena, who plans to attend a local high school to support her family. During a parent-teacher meeting, Elena’s mother grows concerned due to her daughter's apparent lack of interest in her future. Madoka senses Elena's distress and encourages her to reflect on her dreams. Tenjou transforms Elena’s mother into a Notray after she notices Elena is not truly smiling. Distraught, Elena is attacked by the Notray but is rallied by the other Cures to defeat it. Although they win, the victory feels bittersweet for Elena as she confronts her uncertainty and her mother's perception of her happiness.
