Midori, Yuzuki’s former classmate, reveals her pregnancy and plans to move to Kyushu with her fiancé. She invites Yuzuki to visit Tokyo before they part ways. Tamahiko persuades Yuzuki to accept the invitation, leaving Ryo in charge of his care. Yuzuki spends several days with Midori, who is pleased to learn her friend is being treated well. On the day Yuzuki is scheduled to return, the Great Kanto earthquake strikes. The devastation in the village leaves Tamahiko distraught, fearing he has lost Yuzuki. He discovers a note and birthday present she left behind. Renewed by these items, Tamahiko sets out for Tokyo to find her.
