In the underground settlement of Giha village, Simon and Kamina endure daily life marked by frequent earthquakes. Their routine is shattered when a massive Gunman crashes through the ceiling, invading their subterranean home. While attempting to reach the surface, a feat rarely achieved, the pair encounters Yoko, a girl from a neighboring village who is pursuing the mechanical beast. Together, the trio locates a small Gunman buried deep underground. Kamina names this machine Lagann. By utilizing this key, they manage to defeat the monstrous intruder. This victory provides the means for Simon and Kamina to finally leave Giha Village and ascend to the surface world.
