Robotics engineer Doctor Boynton rejects criminal Skunk Kusai’s Omega Factor circuit, ignoring his son Toby’s wish for a human-like robot. Boynton builds a robot modeled after Toby, but neglects a promised amusement park trip. Toby is fatally injured in a traffic accident, dying after making his father promise to care for the robot. Boynton completes the project, naming it Toby. Meanwhile, Skunk gives the designs to scientist Walpurgis, who builds a robot named Atlas. Boynton raises Toby, but the robot later becomes paralyzed with red eyes and vanishes. Boynton and colleagues chase Toby in a robot tank, which malfunctions. Toby saves them, revealing that Atlas activated the connection. Boynton expresses pride, but they must flee the country. Atlas and Walpurgis’ maid Livian discuss his uncertain future.
