Fifteen-year-old Rito Yūki struggles to confess his love to Haruna Sairenji due to bizarre interruptions. Meanwhile, Lala, a princess from Deviluke, flees Earth to escape arranged marriage interviews imposed by her father, the Emperor of the Milky Way Galaxy. She uses an invention to teleport naked into Rito's bathtub, where he accidentally touches her. This act constitutes a marriage proposal on Deviluke, and Lala accepts her role as his future bride. Although Rito helps her evade capture by her uncle Zastin, he rejects the engagement because of his feelings for Haruna.
