Ep. 3: Antoinette clashes with Madame Du Barry, sparking court factionalism and forcing Oscar into dangerous intrigue.
Aired on October 24, 1979

Antoinette immediately despises Madame Du Barry due to her past as a commoner and former prostitute. She ignores every other court lady except Du Barry, which enrages the mistress and establishes them as enemies. The entire court learns of this feud and begins to align with one side or the other. Duke Orleans seizes the moment to form an alliance with Du Barry, aiming to become heir if Louis XVI and Antoinette die. Oscar attempts to stay neutral, but Du Barry invites Oscar’s mother to serve as her lady-in-waiting. This move compels the Jarjeyes family to engage in perilous court politics, acting against Oscar’s wishes and escalating the tension within Versailles.
