Ep. 4: Rose, Wine, and Conspiracy...
Aired on October 31, 1979

Antoinette invites Madame Jarjayes to counter Du Barry, knowing Oscar’s popularity favors their alliance. To protect her mother from court vendettas while obeying the King, Oscar assigns her to Antoinette’s staff, valuing future royal influence over courtesan status. Enraged, Du Barry pressures the King to warn the Dauphine. Meanwhile, Empress Maria Theresa dispatches Count Mercy as Antoinette’s advisor. Mercy reports Du Barry’s hostility, prompting the Empress to order Antoinette to reconcile, which she ignores. Duke Orleans provides Du Barry with poison. She plans to stage a poisoning attempt framing Antoinette and Madame Jarjayes, but Oscar discovers the scheme and halts it through threats.
