Versailles no Bara Movie

A 50th-anniversary movie project of a long-running manga, it centers on an arranged marriage between Marie Antoinette, an Austrian princess, and Louis XVI of France, intended to strengthen a political alliance. At the French court, Marie Antoinette encounters Oscar Francois de Jarjayes, a Royal Guards captain who appears to be male but is actually a woman. Raised as a boy due to her family's lack of male heirs, Oscar now serves in the military. Marie Antoinette, feeling isolated by the strict court customs, forms a bond with Oscar. However, as the queen misuses her authority, Oscar faces a dilemma between her duty to the monarchy and her awareness of the people's suffering. The story reflects on the pressures these two women face due to their roles, as they navigate their responsibilities amid the backdrop of historical change.
