Ep. 1: Watanuki becomes shop owner years after Yuuko's shadow death and hears her voice.

Watanuki discovers Yuuko being consumed by Dream World shadows, learning her death was previously halted by a mutual decision. Before passing on, she wishes for him to continue living. Years later, Watanuki runs her shop, caring for Maru, Moro, and Mokona. Domeki studies folklore at a university while assisting Watanuki, and Kohane is a student there under Domeki. Domeki’s role triggers events requiring Watanuki’s help. During the request, Watanuki hears a recording of a girl saying, "I'm back Watanuki" in Yuuko’s voice. He rewinds and replays the tape. As the screen fades to black, he finally responds, "Welcome home, Yuuko."
