Machimiya Eikichi persuades the group to increase their pace in an effort to drag the leaders back into the pack. As the pack closes the distance, Arakita attempts to hinder their progress, resulting in Onoda being pulled into the group. Machimiya Eikichi then directs his teammates to move to the front. Hiroshima Kureminami Technical High School separates from the pack and issues a challenge to Sohoku and Hakone for the opportunity to become the champions.
