Four transfer students and Professor Thelonius Viper arrive at Duel Academy. Jaden befriends a new student who can also see Duel Spirits. When the new students are revealed, one of them, Jesse Anderson, is missing. Jaden's new friend shows up last, claiming he got lost on the way to the ceremony, and reveals he is Jesse, who is in possession of a rare deck of "Crystal Beasts". Professor Viper makes Jaden and Jesse duel in an exhibition match.
