Jaden arrives at Duel Academy and is assigned to the Slifer Red dorm, a residence for drop-outs, slackers, and poor duelists. He shares a room with new friends Syrus Truesdale and Chumley Huffington. Shortly after his arrival, Jaden encounters trouble when he is challenged to a duel by Chazz Princeton, an Obelisk Blue student. Chazz seeks to determine whether Jaden defeated Crowler through genuine skill or mere luck. This confrontation marks the beginning of Jaden's tenure at the academy, establishing his initial social circle and immediate conflict with a rival from a higher-ranked dormitory.
