Concerned about the impending arrival of the third Shadow Rider, Bastion organizes practice duels with Jaden, Syrus, and Chumley. During class, Banner notices many students are absent and leads Jaden and the others to investigate the situation. They encounter the third Shadow Rider, identified as Amazoness Tanya, who initiates a duel by selecting Bastion as her opponent. Due to developing a romantic interest in Tanya, Bastion becomes distracted during the match. This lack of focus leads to his defeat, resulting in the loss of his spirit key to the Shadow Rider.
