Upon returning to Duel Academy, Jaden and his friends encounter Alice, a new resident of the Slifer Dorm who performs domestic chores for the boys. Hassleberry develops romantic feelings for her, but he disappears that night. Jaden locates him near the river with Alice standing nearby. Alice is revealed to be the spirit of a doll, created to observe duelists who mistreat their cards and disrespect duel spirits. Jaden challenges her to a duel against her deck of doll monsters. Despite Alice holding the advantage, Jaden secures victory by utilizing Level 10 Winged Kuriboh. Following the match, Alice’s soul returns to her original doll form and is placed back into its storage case.
