Ep. 1: Two masked teens threaten Tokyo with thermite bombs after a plutonium theft in Aomori.

Following a plutonium theft in Aomori, Japan, during a snowstorm, masked teenagers calling themselves Sphinx 1 and 2 post a video warning that Tokyo will face darkness and sparks after 3:00 p.m. in Shinjuku. Six months later, they intervene when Lisa Mishima is bullied, assuming her classmates' identities at school. Frustrated at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Lisa wishes everyone would disappear. The prefecture loses power, and the building is evacuated without her. Nine and Twelve place thermite explosives in stuffed animals under sprinklers. When Twelve is interrupted by Lisa, he gives her a bomb and flees, asking Nine whether to kill her. Nine decides to ask her directly. Lisa pleads for her life, prompting Twelve to extract her as the structure collapses. Nine photographs the destruction. Though unharmed, Nine informs Lisa that by choosing to live, she has become their accomplice, leaving her speechless.
